We are always excited to make available to our canine and feline patients the newest breakthrough medications. New advances in human medicine roll over into veterinary medicine. Receptors for coughing, receptors for itching and now receptors for pain and inflammation are being targeted by new drugs. This allows for a better reversal of signs and symptoms while not adding to organ overload. Galliprant, our latest medication to be released, combats osteoarthritis in dogs.
Whether or not you are aware of it, your pet may have the beginnings of joint degeneration in the knees, hips, elbows, shoulders or back. You will rarely, if ever, hear your pet cry or complain about it. Beside the aging process, the majority of household pets are overweight, thus contributing to early joint disease. Along with weight management, we want to encourage the use of anti-inflammatories in order to give a longer life to our dogs’ joints. Very often, end of life decisions are made simply because a pet cannot rise, walk or be pain free. Quality of life is important to every pet owner. We know this to be true.
The use of anti-inflammatories aid in slowing down the progression of boney spurs and irregularities in the joints of your dog. An inflamed joint only knows how to make more bone. Once these boney changes have occurred, they cannot be reversed. The proactive use of these medications can make all the difference in your pet’s quality of life.
We are now able to prescribe the product Galliprant. It can be used only in dogs over 9 months of age and those greater than 8 lbs. of body weight. This new medication targets the pain receptors of osteoarthritis. Clinical studies show this product to be extremely safe on the organ function of dogs, even when given at 15 times the dose for 9 months. We are very excited about its long term use for our arthritic patients.
For our May Special we are offering Galliprant for 20% off. There are also rebates on Elanco products at elancorebates.com.
Note: This medicine is highly palatable. Keep it in a safe place so your pet does not over ingest it.
