Why is My Cat Peeing Out of the Box?

Is Your Cat Not Peeing In Their Litter Box?

One of the most common complaints I get from my clients about their cats is inappropriate elimination. One of the biggest misconceptions they bring to the table is “My cat is mad at me so she peed on the rug.” Peeing outside of their litter box can be complicated and can have several reasons. Cats do not get mad at us and make a mess in retaliation -- cats don't have the ability to think like that.

Let's look at some reasons why your cat may not be using their litter box.

Strong Smells on Your Dog May Indicate Skin Conditions

Why Does My Dog Smell? Part 2

It’s usually obvious when your dog has a skin problem. You may be able to smell it, but most likely you can see it. Look for signs of hair loss on your dog, crusts or areas of bleeding, and can cause strong smells on your dog.

Let's look into skin problems as a possible reason your dog might be smelling unpleasant.

Otitis in Dogs

Why Does My Dog Smell? Part 1

The smell of a dog is a common topic of discussion at our veterinarian practice. Sometimes when I walk into a closed exam room, the strong odor can be so powerful it will knock me over. There are some obvious places to examine on your dog when looking for a solution. Let's first discuss the ears, otitis and bacterial and yeast infections.

Feline Purevax Rabies

Posted in News on Monday, March 02, 2015.

 Dear Cat owners,

We are very pleased to announce that the Feline Purevax Rabies is now available in a 3 Year vaccine.

The Doctors at Animal & Bird Hospital are committed to keeping your cat healthy. Vaccines have always been part of that care.  But like all medical products and procedures, there is some risk.  Although uncommon, serious vaccine reactions have been documented in cats vaccinated for rabies.  Sarcoma cancer formation at the injection site is the most serious of these reactions.

In Pinellas County, there is a mandatory rabies vaccination for both dogs and cats. Worldwide, rabies is the fourth leading cause of human deaths, following snakes, other humans, and mosquitoes. When our pets are vaccinated, human cases of rabies are decreased.

Using Purevax Rabies will significantly reduce the risk of a Rabies induced sarcoma. This is why we will carry this vaccine in both 1 Year and 3 year vaccines. There is a significant price increase for this particular vaccine, but we believe it is worth switching to Purevax.

You have come to depend on us to take the very best care of your cat. We know that using Purevax is the best way to achieve this goal.

Seeking a Forever home for our Rescue Dog: Reginald

Reginald came to us in June. A client found him at their door and rushed him up. He was emaciated and weak with severe anemia. He had lost ¾ of his blood volume from fleas and his skin is scarred from chronic chewing. He was not neutered and had severe dental infections. Reginald is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. He has a microchip and we believe him to be 10 years old.

He has been completely spoiled by the staff and has gained 7 lbs. bringing his weight from 10 lbs. up to 17 lbs.

He gained enough strength back to be neutered and have his teeth cleaned. He is negative for Heartworms and parasites and is fully vaccinated.

He has some quirks as all dogs do. He scratches at the floor or chair when he wants to go out.

He is a dog that drinks quite a bit of water and urinates frequently so we have preformed extensive lab work including a urinalysis and culture as well as an abdominal ultrasound. No specific problems have been discovered.

Reginald LOVES people! He especially loves cuddling with children. He is a typical Spaniel and wants to be with people. He seems to be able to associate with other dogs, but prefers smaller dogs.

We hope to find a home for Reggie where the owners are home and he is not left for more than a few hours. He is house broken but would need to go out frequently.
